My 2nd Job in Oxford

Image hosting by Photobucket
I'm glad that I was able to find this job, really...
I saw a notice at the Uni's Jobshop last month on a post by Oxfordshire County Council. I thought I would give it a try though some mates have been telling me that 'IT'S NOT EASY TO GET A JOB IN UK!!'... One of the position that was offered is working on every Tuesday evening at Cheney School, which happens to be next to Brookes.
I called the number provided and an applicaiton pack was send to me 2days later. It could have been delivered on the next working day (as was on Royal Mail 1st class standard) IF my house number was stated correctly - it was stated 'Tiac' instead of 'D8C'!!! :S 2 possibilities: 1. My pronunciation of 'D8C' got problem; 2. The Operator hearing GOT PROBLEM :p Whatever...
I was then called for an interview on April 5, Wednesday at Oxford North & West Adult Learning Matthew Arnold School, Arnold's Way, Cumnor Oxford OX2 9JE. Looking at the address alone, I had no idea where in Oxford that place was. Luckily they were kind enough to put down the direction for me, and I took bus no. 4A (oxford company bus) which cost me £2.20 on return. It was about 30mins bus journey from city centre.
The interview was one of 'informal' type. It wasnt like what I have expected. The Admin Manager, Lorraine Abbots and Adult Learning Administrator, Carol Parsons were really really friendly. We sat on sofas around a small table and started the interview. As I have predicted the first Q to be: What Do U Know About Adult Learning?(http://ebslearnerportal.oxfordshire.gov.uk/occ) There I started... blah blah blah... There was laughter most of the time during interview, which made me feel comfortable and not nervous at all... I didnt even feel the pressure of talking to Manager... which I doubt to be the case if facing a Malaysian company.
The interview lasted for bout 30mins. Before I left, Lorraine told me they would like to make a decision that day, hopefully could get back to me for the results, as there were 2/3 persons to be interviewed after me.
2hours later, Lorraine called me:"We would like to offer u the position at cheney school, would u like to accept it?" SURE!! (Yes, I did it!!)
After some technical process, like filling forms from Inland Revenue, Health Declaration, and bank details... I realised that I havent ask for a confirmation on the rate, it was stated £7.22 on the advert notice... I was shocked to know that it is £7.66 an hour instead, after some employment reward which took effect on April 1! Thank God...
Today was my first day of employment. I'm required to work from 6.30 - 9.30pm on every Tuesday. Basically I just need to deliver the registers to those classes before 7pm and then to collect them back from 8.30pm onwards. Also, to collect fees from students sometimes... then stay around up to bout 9.15pm to make sure that most students are gone and my job is DONE for the day! Easy job!
I'm just being LUCKY... Hopefully everything will be fine for me here ;)
